Need New Eyeglasses? Support Breast Cancer Awareness with Zenni Pink!

As you know, I suffered from Stage IIIb Breast Cancer. Thanks to research sponsored by the Koman Foundation and the National Breast Cancer Foundation, I survived what would have killed me a mere five years before.

October is national Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Zenni Optical is giving one dollar to Koman and one dollar to the NBCF this month. How sweet are these glasses? They come in two sizes – small and medium. You can check out the frames here or by clicking the picture above. The Frames are $29.95, Single vision lenses are FREE!! With anti-reflective coating at $4.95, the total (plus shipping of your choice, of course) is $34.90! I have ordered from Zenni before and haven’t had any issues with their glasses. Even my progressive lenses!

Watch for other October goodies with donations given to the Foundations this month.

Now, I need another pair of glasses like I need a hole in the head . . . but……

Linda Got A New Car – And It Benefits The AutoNation Cure Bowl!

Wow. The ins and outs of buying a new (used) car! I sold my Chrysler 300 (bye-bye Baby Girl! Booo Hoo . . .) and it broke my heart, but Linda couldn’t drive it to work, as it was RWD and getting up snowy mountains in it didn’t work for her. Besides, the sporty styling meant that she was too tall to sit comfortably in it. I may drive every other week or so, if that, just to the library or the store, so keeping it really didn’t work, especially as Colorado wanted a small fortune to register it after it was in storage for so long after my cancer treatments. The guy that bought her is thrilled out of his mind, so it’s all good. He is a single father with two kids, one with a dangerous heart condition, and a job with Dell Computer Repair that means he drives a lot – so safety for his kids and a solid driver for him with low mileage had him grinning like a fool as he drove off.

I had found a 2006 Hyundai Tucson 4WD in the right price range and mileage at PlanetHonda over on Colfax, and a saleswoman we liked, so we made an appointment to go see it. Trouble is, she didn’t grab the keys before our appointment that morning – so another salesperson sold it out from under us five minutes before we arrived – even though we had an appointment to see it! Grrrr . . .

Don’t piss off the Leiah. You won’t like the outcome…

As we were leaving PlanetHonda on Saturday, truly pissed, I jumped on and what do you know? A 2006 Hyundai Tucson GLS/XL, at AutoNation Subaru West, not three blocks away. 4WD, sexy Obsidian Black, beautiful interior, in stunning condition other than some very minor hail damage. (In Colorado, you deal with two things – always – hail damage, and cracked windshields from rocks thrown up from gravel trucks, etc.).

As Linda was tired, grumpy, and hungry, and I was just plain pissed, we went home and called to get more information. Noel, the agent who answered, was kind, helpful and considerate. They just got the Tucson in, and wanted to give it a good going over before making it available for sale. Would we care to make an appointment? Well, sure, as long as he doesn’t jerk us around. OK, good deal, see you on Monday morning at 9:30!

As agreed, we showed up (well, we showed up at 9:10, just to be safe). There she sat, waiting on us, with a big “On Hold” sign on the windshield. Sweet. Sexy, sexy baby!! Hey, it even has Bluetooth! Double Score! One owner, all records, everything kept up. They put in a new radiator, hoses and belts, as well as replacing all four tires (!!) when they brought it in (I did some research online. Approximate Value? Radiator, radiator fan, belts and hoses: $500.00 New All Weather Tires and Balance, tire disposal fee: $583.00) Flipping over backwards and cheering SCORE!!! And a few dollar less than the one at PlanetHonda!

Even Better?! AutoNation is sponsoring the AutoNation Cure Bowl at the Orlando Citrus Bowl on December 19th!!!!!!

There are nice plate holders front and back showing off AutoNation’s support of breast cancer research, and I am pushing for Linda to get the Colorado Breast Cancer Research License Plates.

Guess I will have to get a car cover in pink and Ribbon it up! Covercraft makes them, but theirs have more of a “Covercraft” vibe than a Pink Ribbon Vibe, so it is the sewing machine and paints to the rescue! LOL… Check this one out!

OK, so maybe I am relegated to the 2002 Audi Quattro V6 that Linda used to drive – but I am giving serious consideration to painting it pink! 😉

Pieces of clothing from celebrities, including Liz Hurley, were worked into this huge crazy patch project. The names of those who donated fabric were embroidered onto pink ribbons." - thequiltquine on Etsy:

Shhh, don’t tell, but these will be under the Solstice Tree! 😉

She can only hope Wolf and his team will be able to save her in time.

One Night Stand by Parker Kincade: Amanda Martin decides to have a one-night stand. No relationship, no promises just hot, indulgent sex. What she doesn’t anticipate is meeting a handsome-as-sin stranger who gives her pleasure unlike she’s ever known. A stranger with a deadly secret.

Brody by Mandy Harbin: Brody thinks the skittish Xan is sexy as hell, but it’s not her hot body that has him rocked to his core. He knows her from somewhere, and in his line of work, that’s a dangerous thing. Following orders have never been this hard, but when he finds out she’s his next assignment, he will protect her at all costs.

Enemy Mine by Megan Mitcham: Born in the blood of Sierra Leone’s Civil War, enslaved, then sold to the US as an orphan, Base Branch operative Sloan Harris is emotionally dead and driven by vengeance. With no soul to give, her body becomes the bargaining chip to infiltrate a warlord’s inner circle. (I can’t wait to read this one!)

Caught in the Crosshair by Barb Han: On a tropical island with a hurricane brewing and dangerous men closing in, private security firm owner Jaden Dean will need to work side-by-side with Lauren James to survive and find her brother. He will have to use all his specialized training and risk everything, including his heart, to outwit the deadly group and keep Lauren safe.

what we leave behind book coverAbout What We Leave Behind by Matthew Alan

This is a story about struggle, a story of hope, and mostly, a story about love. A journey with a unique young girl who is so sure of what is out there waiting for her, that she never compromises her belief in finding it.
It isn’t always an easy path, but Jane Rawley Solomon’s humor, character, and passion for others, keep her moving towards her goals – despite life throwing obstacles in her way. What she’s left with is truly beautiful.

Fifty percent of the author’s profits from the book sales of ‘What We Leave Behind’, will be split, and donated to the Ronald McDonald House charities ( and the ASPCA ( In the names of my father – Will, Shelly and Lauren.

The reason I’m choosing these two charities are manifold, but knowing the individuals as I did, and understanding the benefits these charities provide for those in need, it makes perfect sense.
Anyone who appreciates the healing power of animals, will understand the ASPCA . And if the circumstances happen when long term care of a loved one is necessary – then you understand the financial burden incurred by traveling during these times. The support of family and friends becomes immeasurable during difficult times – and these amazing charities represent the ideals of the individuals this book is hoping to honor.
